Artist's Tunic - 1940s Japanese Handprinted Silk
Handprinted Japanese silk with a luxe sheen is light and breezy. Idiosyncrasies in the hand print make plain this piece is one-of-a-kind. We love this blouse for night or day, either on its own with a jacket, or tucked in to a pair of high rise pants.
Fabric
Heritage Japanese silk c. 1943 brought to America during World War II by an American service member and stored in a family heirloom trunk in California ever since. Shimmering, handprinted paisley pattern in yellows and grays - the print truly varies in minute ways, an indicia of its handmade quality.
Buttons
1910s Mother of Pearl buttons from an old button factory called B. Schwanda and Son Ocean Pearl Button Factory in Southern New England. In the 1960s the company went bankrupt due to the popularity of cheap, plastic buttons. Prior to that, its pearl would have been harvested from American waters.
